When you’re piecing together your look for the big day, your hair is a big part of this, so you want to make sure you’ve chosen the right wedding hairstyle for you.

From what suits your style to what matches your dress, there’s more to think about when choosing your bridal hair than you may think but we’re here to help.

We’ve helped hundreds of brides create their look for their special day over the years, so we know a thing or two about what hairstyles work for different brides, so here are our top tips for picking the right bridal hairdo for you:

Face Shape

One of the main things that will determine how much a hairdo flatters you is your face shape, so that’s a good place to start when picking what hairstyle you want to go with.

We’re in full support of every bride wearing her hair in whatever way she likes, regardless of whether it’s ‘the perfect style for her’, but if you are keen to pick a style that is guaranteed to flatter your face, looking at your face shape is the best way to do so.

Oval shaped faces are known as the ideal, so if you’re lucky enough to have that face shape, anything goes. As for round face shapes, pulling all your hair very tightly off your face will accentuate your face shape, so something looser that falls around the face will soften the shape.

As for heart-shaped faces, this is where the forehead is noticeably wider than the chin, so a look with more detail or volume around the chin and neck and sleeker on top is best for balancing this face shape out. Square face shapes can be softened and rounded with looser hairstyles like curls.

Hair Type

Some hairstyles work better with certain hair types such as updos tend to work better with thicker hair as there’s more to work with to give volume and curls work better with lighter hair as they’re less likely to fall out, so if you want to pick a style that will look good and last all day, take your hair type into consideration.

We agree with Wedding Ideas Magazine when they say to use your hair type to your advantage and if you’ve got fine hair and have never tried hair extensions, your wedding day could be a good time to give them a go to help you get the look you really want!

The Top Half of Your Dress

Another big deciding factor for your hairstyle for the day is what the top half of your dress looks like.

As a general rule, we’d recommend that if all the detail of your dress is in the top half, such as a statement back or detailed neckline, having your hair in an updo will allow you to show off those details and make them the star of the show.

If your dress is plainer on the top half and the detail is through the skirt, having your hair down will add more detail around the top of the dress.

Although this is usually what people will go for, there’s nothing that says you can’t wear your hair down with a detailed dress and up with a simple dress, it’s just about showing off your dress as best you can.

Your Personal Style

The most important thing to consider with your hair for your big day is what your style is and how you actually want to wear it.

There’s no point conforming with traditions if they don’t suit you, so however you like to have your hair and whatever you feel more comfortable wearing, go for that.

If you like your hair straight, go for that or if you like it curly, opt for that instead. You want to look like yourself on your big day, so there’s no use in sporting a hairstyle that just isn’t you.

Your hair is the finishing touch to your overall look, so get it right with these top tips for picking the right look.
