USEFUL INFORMATION
We know how daunting the world of wedding dresses can be. You’ll be in safe hands with our fantastic team of experts, and we are of course here to answer all your questions. But before we get to meet you, here are some of our most commonly asked questions. We can’t wait to welcome you!
Once you have your wedding date, we recommend beginning your search 10 to 12 months before the big day. It’s also a great idea to have your venue booked before you start shopping, as it can be difficult to choose a dress without being able to picture your wedding location and the overall feel of your day.
Just as importantly, it’s essential that you feel personally ready to find your dress. Wedding dress shopping works best when you feel comfortable and open to making a decision. Many brides are surprised to find “the one” during their very first appointment.
Our made-to-order dresses typically take around 4 to 6 months to arrive in store, and you’ll want to allow another couple of months for alterations.
If you’re working to a shorter timeframe, don’t worry. Many of our designers offer rush cut options, and we also have a Ready To Wear collection of gowns that can be taken home the same day.
We do recommend booking an appointment so we can give you the time, space and attention you deserve when trying on dresses.
Our online booking system makes it quick and easy to secure a time that suits you, or you’re always welcome to give us a call and we’ll happily arrange it for you.
Weekends and evenings tend to book up well in advance, and weekdays can also be busy, so booking ahead helps avoid disappointment if you’re travelling to see us.
That said, our door is always open if you’d like to pop in for a browse and get a feel for the boutique first.
Yes. Like many specialist bridal boutiques we charge a small fee for our initial bridal appointments.
This allows us to dedicate a full 90minute appointment with one of our experienced bridal stylists, giving you plenty of time to try on gowns, talk through your ideas, and receive expert guidance in a relaxed and supportive setting.
Charging for appointments also allows us to limit the number of bookings we take each day, ensuring every bride receives the personal attention and unhurried experience she deserves when choosing her wedding dress.
We’re pleased to offer complimentary follow-up appointments if you’d like to revisit your favourites or refine your choice.
Many brides tell us afterwards that having a dedicated stylist and private appointment made the experience far more enjoyable and helped them find their dress much more quickly.
A full list of our regular opening hours can be found at the bottom of this page.
From time to time our hours may vary on Bank Holidays or for special events, so we recommend checking our social media pages before visiting for any updates.

We do not have any private parking but there are lots of parking options nearby, most of which are pay and display.
Wedding dress shopping is a special experience, and choosing the right guests can make all the difference. We recommend bringing people whose opinions you trust and who understand your personal style.
To ensure a relaxed environment for all brides, appointments are limited to a maximum of three guests.
If you would like to bring additional guests for a weekday appointment, please contact the boutique before booking and we will do our best to accommodate where possible.
We are a family friendly boutique, however we do host multiple appointments at the same time and work hard to maintain a calm, focused environment for all brides.
Bridal appointments can last a little while, and children often become bored, so where possible we do recommend leaving children at home so you can fully enjoy the experience.
If you do need to bring children, we kindly ask that they remain seated, have an adult supervising them at all times and bring a quiet form of entertainment, so we can ensure the best possible experience for everyone in the boutique.
Nothing but an open mind.
We provide everything you’ll need during your appointment, including shoes, accessories, and styling pieces to help you visualise your full bridal look.
We simply recommend avoiding heavy fake tan, as this can transfer onto the dresses, and wearing plain or nude underwear so it doesn’t show through certain fabrics.
Your appointment at Maria Modes is designed to be relaxed, personal, and entirely focused on you.
Before your visit, we encourage brides to browse our website and select three gowns you’d love to try on. You can add these to your booking questionnaire if you know them at time of booking, so send them to us at a later date ahead of your appointment. Having a few favourites ready gives us a great starting point and helps make the most of your appointment time.
When you arrive, you’ll be welcomed by one of our experienced bridal stylists, who will take time to learn about your wedding plans, personal style, and the look you’re hoping to achieve.
You’ll then try on your chosen gowns, along with additional dresses suggested by your stylist that complement your style and ideas. Using professional fitting techniques, we’ll help you visualise how each gown will look once ordered in your size.
Our aim is to make the experience enjoyable, inspiring, and completely stress free. While there’s never any pressure, many brides do find “the one” during their first appointment.
Most brides try on around 6 to 10 dresses during their appointment.
Before visiting, we encourage brides to select three favourites from our website, which gives us a great starting point for your appointment. Your stylist will then suggest additional gowns based on your feedback, personal style, and what works best for your wedding.
Every appointment is slightly different, and we are always led by the bride. Some brides make decisions quickly, while others prefer to take their time and really experience each dress before moving on.
Towards the end of the appointment, we also like to revisit your favourite dresses so you can try them again and compare them side by side. This often helps brides feel confident when making their final decision.
Our bridal collection starts from around £1,300 and goes up to approximately £6,500, with the majority of our gowns priced between £1,500 and £3,000.
To make things easier when browsing, the price range for each designer is listed on their individual pages on our website. We recommend taking a look before your appointment so you can get a feel for the collections and styles that fit within your budget.
We also offer a Ready To Wear collection of dresses, with prices starting from around £300, which can be taken home the same day.
If you have a particular budget in mind, your stylist will always be happy to guide you towards the best options during your appointment.
Yes. All of the dresses currently shown on our website are available in store to try.
At Maria Modes we are proud to invest heavily in our designer collections, allowing us to offer brides a large and carefully curated selection of gowns all under one roof. Because of this, many brides choose to start their bridal journey with us as it gives them the opportunity to explore a wide range of styles and designers in one visit.
We recommend browsing our designer pages ahead of your appointment and selecting a few favourites to try. Many brides are pleasantly surprised to discover their dream dress during their very first visit.
Occasionally a particular sample may be temporarily unavailable if it is away for cleaning or at a designer event, so if there is a specific gown you would love to try, simply let us know in advance and we will do our best to have it ready for you.
Possibly, but the size of the sample is rarely a concern.
Most of the gowns in our boutique are sample sizes between a UK10 and a UK20 and we also hold a number of dresses in duplicate sizes, which can make it easier to envision the fit.
Our stylists are highly experienced in using professional fitting techniques to help you visualise how a gown will look when ordered in your size, even if the sample isn’t a perfect fit. In some cases, if we feel it would be helpful, we may also be able to loan a different sample size directly from the designer for you to try.
If you have any questions or concerns about sizing ahead of your appointment, please feel free to contact us and we’ll be happy to advise.
Yes. Many of our designers offer customisation options, such as adjusting necklines, adding sleeves, or altering design details.
For brides looking for something truly unique, we also work with House of Savin, whose gowns are handcrafted in London and can be created on a fully bespoke basis, allowing you to personalise your dress in a wide variety of ways.
In addition, our in-house seamstress, who has over 25 years of experience, regularly works with brides to refine and personalise their gowns through expert alterations and finishing touches.
Customisation options vary depending on the designer and the style of dress, and your stylist will guide you through what is possible during your appointment.
Once you’ve found the one, we’ll of course take a moment to celebrate with you, including another round of bubbles of course!
Your stylist will then take your measurements to determine the most suitable size to order and talk you through the next steps.
For made to order gowns, a 50% deposit is required when you place your order, with the remaining balance due once your dress arrives in store. If you are purchasing a Ready To Wear gown, payment is required in full and the dress can usually be taken home the same day.
Your stylist will also explain expected delivery times, alterations, and what to expect between now and your wedding day so you leave feeling confident and excited.
Yes. We are proud to offer bridal alterations on site with our dedicated seamstress, who works from our alterations studio here at Maria Modes on the second floor.
Alterations are not included in the price of the dress, as every gown and bride requires slightly different adjustments. Most brides spend approximately £300 to £400 on alterations, depending on the work required.
Your first fitting will usually take place around 10 to 12 weeks before your wedding day. At this appointment we begin shaping the dress to your body and discussing any final adjustments. It’s important to bring your wedding shoes to this fitting so we can ensure the hem is the perfect length.
Most brides will have two to three fittings before their wedding day to ensure everything fits beautifully.
Your stylist will guide you through the process once your dress arrives in store, so you’ll know exactly what to expect.
Yes, we offer a beautifully curated range of bridal accessories to help complete your wedding day look.
Our jewellery collection includes pieces from Ivory & Co, one of the most respected bridal jewellery brands, known for their elegant and timeless designs.
We also carry a large selection of veils in a variety of lengths and styles, from simple and classic designs to more detailed statement pieces from a number of leading bridal accessory designers.
In addition, we stock a range of modern styling pieces including detachable sleeves, capes, overskirts, bows, neckscarves and gloves, allowing you to personalise your look or even create two different styles for your ceremony and reception.
Many brides choose their accessories during their initial bridal appointment or at one of their dress fitting appointments later in the process. If you would prefer to visit specifically to explore accessories, you are also welcome to book a dedicated accessory styling appointment here.
Yes. After your wedding day we can arrange for your gown to be professionally cleaned by specialist bridal cleaners who are experienced in caring for delicate fabrics, lace, and detailed embellishments.
Wedding dresses often require a more specialist cleaning process than standard dry cleaning, as hems can collect marks during the day and fabrics such as lace, tulle, and silk need careful handling to avoid damage.
Once cleaned, we can also arrange a professional preservation service, where your dress is carefully packed into a beautiful acid-free storage box designed to protect the fabric and prevent discolouration over time. This is a lovely option if you would like to keep your dress safely stored as a keepsake.
As a guide, bridal cleaning typically ranges from around £150 to £250, depending on the fabric, detailing, and condition of the gown. Preservation boxes are priced between £75 to £225 depending on the size of box required.
Your stylist will be happy to talk you through the available options after your wedding and arrange everything for you when the time comes.
